Our Junior School has reached the Final of the GDST Young Choir of the Year competition. The Choir was made up of the whole of Year 6 from Newcastle High School for Girls: they recorded two songs for the first round of the competition, 'Who Would Imagine a King' and 'Oye'.
The girls sang beautifully and clearly impressed the judge as they are one of only eight Junior Choirs from the GDST to have been selected to take part in the Final of this prestigious competition.
The composer of children’s music, Sheila Wilson, is the Judge and had the difficult job of selecting the Finalists from entries from the 26 schools of the GDST. All entries were of an incredibly high standard, however, the exceptional performance of the NHSG Junior Choir clinched our place in the Final.
Talking about the NHSG Year 6 Choir, Sheila Wilson said:
“I was particularly impressed with Newcastle’s unison-singing and your lovely harmonies; and with your phrasing. Your songs demonstrated your wide range of skills, which included superb expression and control. Very well done.”
The NHSG Junior Choir will now be travelling to London to perform in front of the judges and guests at The Queen Elizabeth Hall in London on 25th March.
