“I started Newcastle High School for Girls in Year 7 and, since then, I have enjoyed 7 years at the school, holding the role of prefect and games and netball captains. I have been given many wonderful opportunities, for which I hope I have repaid the school in other ways.
Academically, School has helped me achieve a place at the university, and on the course, I wanted. I am now in my second year, studying at Birmingham University for a degree in Medicine. Without the support from teachers and numerous extra-curricular talks and experiences at school, achieving this would have felt a much greater task. Aside from the academics, the school has given me social skills and many opportunities in sport. From travelling not only to the furthest ends of England but to South Africa on sports tours.
The school has given me the most well rounded experience, none of which would have been possible without the bursary scheme. I really think it is important to have diversity, bursaries allow opportunities to be offered to individuals from every background; I believe it helps both the individual who holds the bursary and those around them.”
