On Thursday 3rd March, Year 7 were inspired by books old and new for the annual World Book Day.
Year 7 celebrated the day by dressing as characters from their favourite books, as well as taking part in the Bake a Book competition, where books inspired the design of a cake.
Newcastle High was delighted to welcome Rachel Henderson from Blackwells in Newcastle and Sally Adams from Seven Stories who judged the Bake a Book competition and awarded a prize for the best dressed.
Both judges commented on the hard work and effort that had gone into the cakes and costumes and all agreed that the high standard made it extremely difficult to judge. First place was awarded to Lara Brown for her Hogwarts Library cake.
Anna Gillespie came 2nd with 3rd and Henna Ibrahim’s cake came 4th. Special commendation awards went to Meghan Dickie for How Much I Love You.
Congratulations must also go to Isabella Lingam who, dressed as the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz, won the award for best costume.
As the judging came to an end, the girls then sold their cakes raising a fantastic £114.80 which has been donated to Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
