Not one, but two teams from Newcastle High School for Girls have qualified for the Finals Day in the Oxford Schools’ Debating competition.
Emma Curran and Sarah Davies, and Lauren Baldwin and Michelle Sitienei were the only winners of the regional round of the competition which was held on 5th February.
The four girls will make up two of the 100 debating teams attending the Final. They will join an elite group of regional and international winners to take part in one of the most prestigious school debating competitions in the country at Oxford University on the 14th March.
This is an outstanding achievement and follows on from the news that two of the Oxford finalists, Emma Curran and Lauren Baldwin, have qualified for the Cambridge Finals which take place on 28th February.
With strong debating clubs at both Junior and Senior level, we are delighted that girls at Newcastle High School for Girls are developing the skills to debate at such a high standard, skills that will equip them for the rest of their lives.
