Emily Plummer has followed in her mum’s footsteps throughout school. Mum, Ruth Plummer, née Lunn, also attended Newcastle High School for Girls, formerly Central High and had set the bar high when it came to exam results getting all As at O level.
A delighted Emily said: “I am delighted that they didn’t do A*s when my mum was at school, because my results surpass hers!”
Emily got 8 A*s and 2 As and was doubly delighted to have beaten her twin elder brothers who got 7 A*s between them.
An emotional Emily had told her mum not to look at her face when she received her results, because she knew she would cry no matter what and was in floods of tears as she opened her envelope.
“I am so thrilled with my results. I really tried not to expect too much but I am so pleased to be going on to study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths with a view to doing Medicine, again like my mum.”
Emily’s mum Ruth (Lunn), herself a former pupil of Newcastle High said:
“It is all so different from when I received my results. I cycled here on my own and was handed my results in the little library. There wasn’t so much pressure as there is today. At the time, I can’t remember it occurring to me how important the results were and things like the publication of the grade boundaries just didn’t happen.”
