On Wednesday 11th March, six girls from Newcastle High took part in the regional heat of the ICAEW’s Business, Accounting and Skills Education (BASE) competition.
The heat, which took place at Northumbria University , required the girls to take on the role of an ICAEW Chartered Accountant and were given business scenarios to which they had to supply a solution.
Anna said: “On the day, we had to work as a team to prepare a recommendation for the Board of Directors of a business on how to improve their net profit margin. We had a Chartered Accountant as a mentor who helped us to analyse the information and prepare a presentation. There were lots of challenges facing the business such as poor finances, a disruption in their supply chain and ethical issues around organics products and wages paid to workers.”
The girls were delighted to learn that they had won the regional heat and qualify for the National Final in Birmingham on 25th June.
