Head Girl and all-roVisitor Safety Inductionund star Davina Nylander, 18, from Ponteland, picked up an outstanding A* in Biology and 2 A grades in Chemistry and English Literature. There were double celebrations for Davina after she recently found out that she is the overall winner of this years’ GDST Minerva Award – given to the most prestigious all-rounder across all GDST schools. Davina is now off to UCL to study Medicine.

Speaking today, she said: “I feel amazing today, so happy. I’ve always enjoyed all subjects but decided to pursue a career in Medicine as I feel it’s a wonderful bridge between academia and understanding people. I think it’s the realisation that being a doctor isn’t just about science, it’s about how you are with people and that’s something that really appeals to me.

“Being Head Girl has just been fantastic; such a rewarding experience, which I feel vVisitor Safety Inductionery proud of. As part of the first year of Newcastle High School for Girls, we were tasked with coming up with our school song, which we shared with everyone on the last day of term to a great reception. It’s so nice to feel like you’ve helped to form part of the new traditions that will be carried on for many years to come.

“I’m also so happy to have picked up the recent GDST Minerva Award for all-round achievement too. I love sport, academic work, getting involved in school productions and lots of other things like volunteering. I couldn’t believe it when I was selected out of all the GDST schools; it’s a great feeling and something I will take with me as I start this exciting new chapter in my life!”
