Both struck on the idea of Mechanical Engineering after the school arranged work experience for them.  After work shadowing a female mechanical engineer in Newcastle Francesca realised that it was the job for her.

“My choice of degree has largely been shaped, or at least influenced by being at Newcastle High.  It was our Physics teachers who have taught me since I was eleven who first suggested that I should consider engineering.  They have both been engineers themselves so they know I’d be suited to the course and the environment.  One of them even studied at Warwick where Rachel will be going.

“We both did the Engineering Education Scheme for six months – it was hard work and took up a lot of time in Year 12 but it was so valuable and we have been recommending it to other sixth formers who are thinking of engineering as a career.  It helped me so much with my Uni application and I gained tremendous  industrial experience, as well as transferable skills including reporting, team work, investigative skills and conflict resolution.”
