Sonia Sapare achieved an exceptional set of GCSE results, earning nine Grade 9s and two Grade 8s.
Although she had hoped to do well, Sonia admitted her results exceeded expectations.
“I wasn’t expecting them, so I was really shocked,” she said. “I did much better than I thought I would.”
Sonia will continue her studies in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics as she works towards her goal of studying Medicine at university.
“I’ve always wanted to go into medicine, and now I’m even more certain it’s what I want to do. It’s such a fulfilling profession.”
Alongside her academic studies, Sonia is a member of YPAG, Newcastle’s Young People’s Advisory Group, where she helps discuss ways to improve healthcare services for young people.
The experience has strengthened her interest in a range of medical specialisms. After recently shadowing an anaesthetist during hospital work experience, she is also considering a future career in orthopaedics.
Looking forward to Sixth Form life, Sonia is excited by the increased independence and the opportunity to build even stronger relationships with teachers.
“The teachers are so supportive and student-focused,” she said. “You get to know them really well, and they are always there to help.”
Sonia will be celebrating her results while also marking her parents’ wedding anniversary today.
