In September 2014, Central Newcastle High School and Newcastle upon Tyne Church High school will merge to form Newcastle High School for Girls (Newcastle High).
Building on the strong heritage of the two existing schools, both based here in Jesmond, Newcastle High will be a beacon of excellence for girls’ education. It will give girls in the North East access to one of the best schools in the country. Newcastle High will deliver an outstanding, forward looking education, rooted in traditional values. We aim to develop outward looking and socially responsible girls who are equipped with the confidence and ability to be the person they want to be and to embrace the opportunities and challenges of adult life. Opportunities to excel academically, develop skills, strengthen character, and participate in a wide range of co-curricular activities – sport, art, dance, music and drama – will abound. The proposed redevelopment of the space and buildings at the existing Church High site on Tankerville Terrace and the development of sports facilities on the School Field (Intake Field) off Abbotsford Road, both on display at this exhibition, will provide outstanding facilities for Newcastle High’s new Senior School. The reconfiguration and improvement of the site is designed to provide an innovative, enhanced learning environment appropriate for the twenty first century. The impressive design will benefit pupils and staff and complements existing buildings on the site and in the vicinity. It will mean that, in the future, we can continue to ensure the high quality of education enjoyed by our girls. Newcastle High needs first rate facilities to deliver our educational vision and we believe that these proposals will take the School a long way on its journey to achieving this.
