Olympic Gold medallist and hockey legend, former GB and England captain, Kate Richardson-Walsh visited NHSG on 4th July for the annual Sports Awards Evening. Kate was the guest speaker and presented prizes for sporting achievements during 2018, sharing her own passion for sport and inspiring the next generation of female athletes at the School.
Kate, who is the most capped England hockey player in history, talked to the assembled audience of over 300 girls, parents and staff, encouraging them to be visionary and pursue their sporting dreams, no matter how difficult the challenge ahead may seem. She reflected on her favourite quote, “Reach for the moon, because even if you miss you’ll land amongst the stars”, which inspired her journey to Olympic success.
Kate presented the prizes to Senior School girls in recognition of their outstanding sporting achievement, participation and contribution to the school and wider sporting community. Her speech echoed Newcastle High’s approach to sport, which encourages all girls to take part, keep fit and active and to build exercise into a healthy lifestyle as well as striving for success in team and individual sports.
The purpose of the awards ceremony was not just to acknowledge sporting excellence but to recognise where girls have made a significant contribution to the school’s sporting community as well as having made great personal improvements, rewarding girls who demonstrate continued commitment to team and individual sports.
