“Michelle is currently studying for a Masters in Pharmacy at Sunderland University, a subject she loves and enjoys. Being granted the opportunity to study at the prestigious Newcastle High School for Girls was a ‘dream come true’, and an honour to Michelle and our family. Michelle had an amazing experience at NHSG, thanks to the HSBC bursary which has been life changing.
Michelle describes her experience as ‘memorable’, particularly the opportunity to take part in Debating finals at Oxford University which was a great achievement. The opportunity to take part in netball and Debating Society helped improve her confidence, communication and leadership skills. At NHSG, Michelle felt supported and appreciated, and the ability to contribute to fundraising events for Plan UK and Newcastle Soup Kitchen, gave her an opportunity to contribute positively to the wider community.
NHSG taught her to be hardworking and resilient, and she will be forever grateful to all her teachers for their endless support throughout the UCAS application process, academic and extracurricular activities. All staff and peers were inspiring and encouraging, a notion she has embraced wholeheartedly.
Reflecting on Michelle’s experience at NHSG, without a GDST bursary, it is unlikely that Michelle would have achieved her dream. As she grows to be a young professional, she aspires to assist others who are in disadvantaged circumstances to achieve their dreams. Guided by her Christian values, Michelle gains inspiration from this quote, “I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle”- Mother Teresa. Our sincere gratitude to Mrs French and GDST for the bursary award.”
