Achieving A*s across the board is no mean feat but that is just what Jasmine Down from Jesmond did, picking up the very top grades in Chemistry, Biology and Geography.

Jasmine will be leaving Newcastle High School for Girls to study Medicine at Birmingham University.

She said: “I checked on UCAS Track first thing this morning and knew that I had gained my place – my offer was for an A* and two As but I still had no idea as to what my actual grades were, so we came straight into school.  I opened the results envelope on my own and then ran out to tell my parents who were waiting in the car.  I am just so pleased.

“It’s been a long wait and I was feeling apprehensive about university and all that it involved but now I have my results I feel really happy.  I chose Medicine as it’s a practical job where you can interact with people.  I really like learning but want to be able to apply my learning to help others.”

Jasmine will be celebrating her phenomenal achievement with both her family and friends today before she starts planning for university in earnest.
