Triathlete Lucy Cottee from Sunderland was taking her fantastic GCSE results in her stride today after learning she had achieved seven A*s and three As at GCSE.

The 16 year old, a little bleary eyed after just returning from trekking in Peru, was otherwise a picture of serenity as she collected her results today at Newcastle High School for Girls where she has been a pupils since she was six years old.

She said: “I knew I couldn’t change the outcome, so felt quite comfortable as I came into school today.  I am pleased with my results in particular with the A* in German.”

Mrs French said: “Lucy is incredible, she has achieved these outstanding results while training as an athlete – running at Gateshead and swimming with the Gateshead and Whickham Club.  That requires dedication and commitment which Lucy has in abundance.  I am so pleased for her.”

Lucy is taking Chemistry, History, English and PE in the Sixth Form at Newcastle High School for Girls.
