Newcastle High School for Girls is endeavouring to help as many families as possible experience the benefits of walking to school.
What are the benefits of walking to school? Walking to school helps children feel happier and healthier and they arrive refreshed, fit and ready to learn. More families walking means fewer cars on the road during the school run, helping to reduce congestion and pollution at the school gates.
What if you can’t walk to school? If you live too far away or don’t have time to walk the whole way to school, you can Park and Stride. Park or hop off public transport at least ten minutes away from the school and walk the rest of the way.
The map below shows suggested locations to park and stride from (click the icon in the top right corner to expand map and zoom in). You will see we have identified Silver, Bronze and Gold Routes – the classification is linked to how impactful these routes are in terms of increasing the safety of our community. We recommend you take a Gold Route where possible!).
Please take care to consider other road users, particularly in relation to where you park, and that you observe speed limits at all times. Please also switch off your engine when parked to reduce harmful emissions.
